top things to do

NOTE: I only had 7 hours in Vienna, so it was a whirlwind tour, but here’s my top tips!

  1. St Stephen’s Cathedral (See picture at bottom) - This huge stunning cathedral is bang centre of Vienna and the best place to start. You pay to check out the catacombs and go up the towers. DEFINITELY go up the South tower, check out me mid climb in picture and then the final view at the bottom. It’s 343 steps up and 136 metres in height. Due to the fact you’re so high it’s an indoor viewing room (so you don’t get blown across Austria!), but the views across Vienna are banging! Even although you’ll be knackered from the stairs and a bit dizzy! Those stairs are narrow 😂.

  2. Stroll around the centre or grab a horse and cart - There’s amazing buildings and architecture everywhere. Walk through the Hofburg (see picture at top and bottom) and you’ll come to a variety of museums and statues.

TIPS from others - Couple of lovely French ladies I met said I had to visit the palace, sadly I couldn’t but I’ve googled it and i’d recommend!

food & drink

Loos American Bar - Very cool wee cocktail bar in the centre of Vienna. All designed by Adolf Loos!

Aida Cafe - Meant to be the best coffee in Vienna and admittedly my latte was lovely but more importantly my viennese strudel was amazing! Just look at it in that picture, ooooft! Right beside the cathedral, needed before those 343 steps!

Trzesniewski - Cheap and classic wee Austrian sandwich shop. Slices of bread with loads of different toppings from, fish, beef, truffle egg etc. blends of various things that shouldn’t work but do!

Kliene’s Cafe - Very cool, but little pricey cafe in a quiet little square, but it did serve me a delightful big slice of the Vienna must have Sachertorte!
