things to do

  1. Visit the Big Buddha -Taking a cable car that goes from the city, way up over the mountains to where a giant buddha sits. It’s an amazing cable car ride with stunning views and when you arrive at the little village up in the mountains, the Buddha about the size of a block of flats is something else! He’s a proper big lad! (photo at the bottom)

  2. Go to a night market - Hong Kong can be expensive so if you want a great fun night in the bustling culture with cheap food and booze, head to a night market! I grabbed the star ferry and went to the Temple street night market.

  3. Rooftop bar - There’s two ways to view the city at night, get the tram up to the viewing point which is a fantastic view(See photo at bottom), but very busy and touristy OR a roof top bar with beers, good music and amazing views. I did both and the latter was definitely a winner. We went to the Wooloomooloo Rooftop lounge in Wan Chai (see bigger photo at bottom).

  4. Get the Star Ferry - Great way to travel and see the city especially at night (photo below).

  5. Dragon’s back trail and beach - Full transparency! I didn’t do this as i’m no hiker and i’d had a few beers the night before 😂 BUT some friends did and they loved it, ‘stunning scenery and amazing beach’. So I thought i’d just add it in for those who like a hilly walk!

food

Tim Ho Wan in Sham Shui Po - Michelin star restaurant, not espensive, fantastic local cuisine. Go and tick the boxes of the things you want and before you know it you have a table like i did (picture to the left).

ALSO i have to mention again the Night Market, you get amazing food for cheap. Sitting in the warm bustling streets. Brilliant fun.

Finally…strange one…Mcdonald’s does some different options i’d never seen before so if you’re a fan, check it out! I know, not very cultured, shame on me! But hey i fancied a quick, cheeky burger.

My hotel

Full transparency again, I was touring with The Play That Goes Wrong so…no idea how much this hotel costs, BUT what a great hotel! Rooftop pool (see picture left) overlooking the harbour, brilliant breakfast with numerous chefs, lovely rooms.
