top things to do

  1. Tram 28E - Jump on this famous old tram and head round the city. It’ll take you round all the cobbly little streets of the old town and up to the beautiful views from the castle. (see picture at bottom)

  2. Sintra - Great day out from Lisbon if you love ye olde castles and various other amazing old sights. Check out my full page here.

  3. Miradouros - Or viewpoints! Its a beautiful city with many hills (ooft you’ll get your steps in!) so there’s many stunning views. Many different ways to see the city, there’s specific Miradouros, a giant lift (see picture at bottom) and rooftop bars (Park bar in picture). NOTE: save money and time queueing for the giant lift by heading across the road to a wee lift in a shop that takes you to Carmo rooftop bar.

  4. Castle/Old Town - Old town Lisbon is a bonnie place, wee cobbled streets, restaurants, bars and castle walls. Check it out, then have a beer and look over the city. Oh and wear comfy shoes!

  5. Nightlife - The area of Bairro Alto has loads of nightlife. Head down there and party the night away! LX Factory is great for drinks and food at daytime and night, as is Timeout Market, but finally Lisbon is home to loads of Rooftop bars. Park bar was our rooftop bar of choice, see below for more, but there is plenty options.

food & Drink

Classic Portuguese - My favourite was Leitaria A Camponeza. Head here for amazing Espetadas (see picture) in a quaint authentic Portuguese restaurant.

Seafood - If you love seafood get your butt down to Ramiro’s. Fantastic restaurant recommended by Somebody Feed Phil and the many locals who eat there. Huge prawns, lobster, crab, clams you name it, you can have it and if you fancy, you can have a steak sandwich for pudding!

Best View - Had to be Atira-te ao Rio down by the riverside (see the tuna steak picture at the bottom) with a stunning view over to central Lisbon. Next door to the well known Ponto Final, this place had brilliant food too!

Most Variety - Has to be Timeout Market (see picture at bottom). LOADS of selection with over 50 cafes and restaurants round a central seating area. You can eat Portuguese classics, seafood, burgers, hotdogs, cakes or just have a cheeky Super Bock. Great area for nightlife too.

Fun - Want live music, cheap food, fun shots, sing-a-longs, a great atmosphere and top host? Then Jam Club is a great place to check out. Oh and they set your sausage on fire!

MUST DO - Have some Ginjinha at Ginjinha Sem Rival, a tiny bar that sells traditional Portuguese port, which you drink on wee tables on the street, loved it! WEE FACT: Ginjinha Sem Rival opened its doors in 1890 and is still run by the same family at the same location.

Have a Pastel de nata, you can get these famous cheeky wee custard tarts everywhere, but my favourite spot was the freshly baked ones in Castro.

Go to a Rooftop bar. Our choice was Park Bar, see sunset above. Cool bar with good tunes at the top of a car park. Can get pretty busy, though, around sunset.

Special mention -If you like your vino then…By The Wine. Classy wee place with really tasty nibbles (i recommend the pork belly and steak bites…ooooooft!)

my hotel

Garrett 48 Apartments - Lovely apartments in a superb location, especially if it’s your first time in Lisbon. Highly recommend.
