things to do

  1. Dom Luis Bridge (see picture above) - Walk across the top of the bridge for best views of Porto and the river. Grab a cable car at the other side. Walk back along the riverfront and do some wine and port tasting, then back across the bottom bridge. GREAT DAY OOT!

  2. La Ribiera and Square - Cobbled streets and square down by the river. Bars, restaurants and music with great views of the bridge. Lovely evening out.

  3. Library or Livraria Lello - the instagram library which inspired Harry Potter. If you can check it out, but there are big queues!

  4. Rooftop Bar - I went to the Dom Henrique hotel bar (see picture at the bottom) which was very high with stunning views. Bar was nothing special but didn’t matter with that view!

  5. Go to beach - Get a taxi to the nearest beach, it’s small and a bit rocky but with nice beach bars. THEN grab a scooter as there’s lanes for you to scoot 4km to the big beach up the road for some fun on the sand and in the sea!

  6. Go up tower or Torre dos Clerigos - It’ll cost a few euros but it’s a great view if you fancy it and seeing the interior of the old church.

  7. Port tasting and Wine Tasting - I did this everywhere constantly! When in Rome…Porto!

food & drink

  1. Chama - No menu, just a variety of dishes from the fresh local produce brought in that day, loads of quality grub at a great price. Should have a Michelin star. (Fish dish at bottom was a delight!)

  2. Brasao - Best meat restaurant in town, see picture of steak at bottom! Oooooft. Also get some starters in as they’re all cracking.

  3. Taberna Rio - Had a Francesinha (see picture) here on the first night. Right down by the river with amazing view of the bridge. Also street music playing too.

  4. Market - Walk around, check out the stalls, have some port and nibbles. Like me! (picture at the bottom). Went to Bolhao market and it had loads to see and amazing fresh food.

  5. Aduela - CHEAP! AUTHENTIC! Loved by the locals. Little bar spilling out on to the cobbled streets till 2am. Acoustic music in the afternoon too. Loved it!

  6. Base Bar - Very trendy and fun bar in central Porto. Grab a drink and lie down on a bean bag in the park with speakers popping out the ground playing chilled summer tunes!

  7. Manteigaria - Top Pastel de nata with a glass of Port or a lovely coffee. Freshly made by bakers in front of you, sprinkle on some cinnamon, go for the port like me and have a jolly start to the day! (see picture at bottom)

nightlife

Rua da Galeria de Paris and Rua de Cândido dos Reis - These are your party streets and if you want to dance, drink and have fun with big crowds go here! BASE bar also is great (see above) and of course for a chilled street night cap we always popped to ADUELA again!
