top things to do
Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary - Possibly my favourite thing I did in Thailand. Feeding, having a mud bath and bathing with these gentle giants! Just a brilliant day and your money is going towards a good cause as the sanctuary is saving elephants all over Thailand that are overworked to ill health. WARNING they get relaxed in that bath and may drop the kids off…(for those who do not know that term - poo…and those guys poo big)
Railay Beach - I’d definitely advise staying here, but if not, then it’s only a wee trip on a boat from Ao Nang and it’s well worth it. Stunning beaches, monkeys and the occasional giant lizard awaits. There’s also a lovely little lane with plenty of great bars and restaurants.
All day Happy Hour - Of all the places we went this was the cheapest for booze! I mean it’s literally happy hour all day so get the 2 for 1 cocktails in all day long and a Chang tower where you serve your own beers (see picture at bottom).
Ao Nang Night Market (see picture at top)- Nice place to visit for a night. Krabi has a bigger market but if you’re in Ao Nang its great for grabbing some street food and then you can watch the performers at the market (fire eaters, jugglers, singers etc.)
Thai Boxing - There’s a Thai boxing stadium in Ao Nang. Sadly I missed out on a tournament by one night! Gutted…but if you’re heading to Ao Nang make sure to check if there’s a tournament on and get your tickets booked!
Food
The Beach Seafood Bar and Grill (see picture) was one of my favourite places I ate in Thailand. Absolutely lovely food and sitting, looking out over the sea. Away from the main strip of Ao Nang it’s a lovely chilled area and nearby Coffee Auha and Frog Beach Bar are great for a drink after.
And of course for street food - Ao Nang Market!
My hotel
Krabi Resort - As with all hotels in Thailand, it was great value! My favourite bits… the pool bar of course! (see picture) That’s me having a Singha at Happy Hour! Also great thing about this hotel for beach lovers…only private beach in Krabi so you can stroll straight from the hotel to a spacious beach (picture at bottom) where there’s a lovely hammock (if there’s no hammock hogs about!) and a nice restaurant too for a spot of lunch by the beach.
